Changes to my study programme
In 2015 I began studies for a Bachelor of Sound at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Chile in Santiago, Chile. I found the curriculum to be bad mainly because it was too difficult as it had too much curricular load. The first two years the contents of the classes were related to Mathematics, Physics, Electricity and electronics. While the last years have focused much more on my specialty with classes such as: musical harmony, musical production, instrumentation arrangement, architectural acoustics. We also had many electives to choose from such as cinema, volleyball among others.
Due to this difficult study plan, I postponed my studies for 1 year due to the emotional burden along with the pandemic. However, I would have liked to finish my degree as soon as possible.
The facilities in the faculty building were appalling, deplorable, and sad. I remember that we did not have a place to recreate during non-study hours, we did not have a place to have lunch, the elevator always had problems, it even fell with people inside. In short, it seems that the university, despite having so much money, only reached the careers that generated the most income, leaving the arts as the last option in which to invest in educational quality.
On the other hand, the technology of my career were prudent for that time. In those days we did not use much current technology, because we had access to a recording studio that was not up to date, but if you could learn a lot. In terms of teaching methods, there were very good teachers and others who left a lot to be desired,
I found that most of the knowledge was based on the exchange of ideas and experiences between my friends from the faculty.
As a conclusion, I believe that I received a good education in my undergraduate study program, however, I believe that there could be more project-based resources and practical work that are necessary for strong teaching and manifestation of learning.
